ANON...I think you need to stop lying in order to "prove" my claims are ridiculous. You know full well you are not handling the US tax matters of family members with "foreign" investments and businesses, because if you were, you would be agreeing with me, not arguing that I am somehow mistaken about this and it can be dealt with in a couple of hours with no tax issues.

What the USA does with it's tax system is a serious human rights issue that has been largely ignored for many years due to the fact that is was pretty much optional, US persons (frequently citizens of other countries) were free to ignore the outrageous and impossible demands of the USA.
FATCA changed that and added a whole load more pain to the process. This is NEW.
The USA has made the entire world spend billions of dollars in hunting down people it claims to own, forced the whole world to treat those people as second class citizens in their home countries with less rights than their neighbours, treats those people as second class citizens of the USA and punishes them with a tax and reporting regime that makes a normal life impossible, and it's made us pay to do it or they close down our banks.
That is a section of our society being criminalised by a foreign nation until they prove their innocence, persecuted by a foreign nation and we help the USA do it or they shut us down. And all the money they pay to the USA is money stolen from our economies. Does this sound right to you? Probably not, since you don't believe it despite the wealth of evidence to be found with a simple search.

Eventhough this is an old post. I have pretty much endured what he mentions and I can vouch that if I had the choice no to move out from US to Belgium I would have stayed put. I married a Belgian citizen which now 11 years I am widowed. Life has been hell, from rental as a single parent, banks made my life hell after he passed, yes FATCA AND FBAR REPORTING. I declare US taxes every year as it is my duty even when my sole income is a widow's pension.
Cost of living is expensive. I pay tax over a pension and my daughter and I struggle. I have no financial means to returng US. Catch 22. Finding rental was also extreme. No one wants to rent a foreigner even when you can pay... etc etc... Just difficult all the way around.
