Drunken passengers delay Brussels Airlines flight

18:12 20/11/2016

A Brussels Airlines flight on Saturday was delayed at Brussels Airport after drunken passengers caused havoc and had to be removed from the plane, reports VRT Nieuws. The news is confirmed by the airline.

The flight with 136 passengers on board was scheduled to depart for Alicante at 15.30. “The boarding process went according to plan. As the plane entered the runway, however, a group of 41 passengers became unruly, ignoring all requests from the commander of the plane. The commander therefore decided to return to the gate for safety reasons, and for the comfort of other travellers,” said a spokesperson for Brussels Airlines.

The police were called in to remove the 41 passengers from the plane. The offenders were reportedly a group of non-Belgians under the influence of alcohol, though Brussels Airlines refused to disclose the nationality of the passengers concerned.

The flight was delayed 2.5 hours.

This was a group ofn Poles. According to police 15 to 20 of them were misbehaving - the number is not precise because they have already calmed down when the police arrived, so police refers to the numbers reported by the flight attendants. 41 persons have to leave the plane as the captain insisted that the flight will not take place unless every Polish person leaves the plane.
This decission may be viewed as rather questionable, but this captain's right to take one like that.

Strikes me that being forced to leave a plane for having the same nationality as somebody who misbehaved is asking for big trouble, and rightly.

@MIKEK1300GT - I do agree. No question about it. What I was saying was in defense of the police - it is captains call to ask someone to leave the plane, if he believes it is right thing to do.
Now, was he right? I don't think so. The airlines should be held responsible.
Police was called and they had to do what they were asked to do.

If you don't want to get yourself thrown off a plane then don't board one intoxicated with booze and then proceed to act like an idiot in the first place.

I am sure this has nothing to do with nationality, could just as easily have been a group of rowdy Brits..
