14:57 20/03/2024

The night train operated by Belgo-Dutch company European Sleeper is extending its service to Prague, the company has announced. An inaugural service departs Brussels Midi station on 25 March at 19.22.

The extension to the night train route lands 10 months after its launch from the Belgian capital to Berlin. The service will stop at Dresden and Bad Schandau in Saxony, Germany, as well as Prague.

Due to arrive in the Czech capital just before 11.00 the following day, the inaugural return to Amsterdam and Brussels will be marked by an official celebration at the city’s main station.

European Sleeper is part of a larger movement to bring night trains back to the continent. The company underlines the ecological advantages of its service, saying it produces up to 28 times less greenhouse gas emissions than aircraft. It also highlights the train’s bike carriage, which enable travellers to embark on cycling holidays.

“Our goal is to add a new route each year so we can continue to contribute to a more integrated and sustainable European transport network,” said co-founder Elmer van Buuren.

Czech minister for European affairs Martin Dvořák welcomed the strengthening of the connection between EU countries and support for sustainable transport. “This project not only simplifies travel between Brussels and Prague, but also reflects our common European values and the drive for a greener and more connected continent.”
