Brussels government approves new mobility plan for companies

15:03 04/06/2017

The Brussels government has approved a new mobility plan that requires large companies to offer their employees two alternatives to the company car, L'Echo reports.

A leaked draft of the proposed mobility plan in early May brought forth criticism from both the majority and opposition. The new, approved plan applies to companies with more than 100 employees and a fleet of at least 10 company cars, according to the newspaper.

From 2018, these companies will be obliged to give their employees three options: a classic company car, a more economical vehicle together with a bicycle or train subscription, or a 'mobility package', which contains deals on, for example, car- and bike-sharing schemes and taxi cheques.

The companies have until the end of June to determine their new mobility policy, and another six months to draw up a specific plan of action.
