Bourse and De Brouckère 'safer and cleaner' by end 2018

19:59 14/03/2017

The Brussels Intermunicipal Transport Company (Stib) has announced that renovation works in the premetro (tram) stations Bourse and De Brouckère will start on 20 April. In addition to improved safety and cleanliness, the renovation promises more accessibility and comfort for travellers, writes Bruzz. The stations will remain open during the project, which is expected to finish by autumn 2018.

The Bourse will gain a large main entrance for travellers, complete with a lift for people with reduced mobility and prams. Additionally, Stib aims for safer and cleaner stations by increasing security personnel and video surveillance, and improving the restrooms and lighting.

The two premetro stations together will provide parking for some 1,250 bicycles. As an added bonus, the stations will also provide space for art exhibitions, and boost the visibility of the existing artworks by Paul Bury and Paul Delvaux.

The renovation of the Bourse station will cost a total of about €9.3 million, De Brouckère an estimated €11 million.
