The international World Confectionery Conference and exhibition brings together the global sweets, snacks and bakery markets on 9 September.

For the first time, the event at the Marriott Hotel in the city-centre is inviting the public to rub shoulders with some major players in the industry. They include Ferrero, Tony's Chocolonely, Luker Chocolate, Fairtrade and Brussels-based Caobisco European trade association.

One of the key topics up for discussion is how to achieve sustainability in the cocoa sector as well as responsible sourcing of cocoa beans and other ingredients.

By gathering delegates and suppliers from across the world in a boutique setting, conference organisers aim to facilitate communication between key decision makers. The event will also provide access to the latest in efficient and innovative technology, systems and products.

As well as keynote speakers, attendees can expect presentations of the latest trends and developments in the global industry. Plus a tabletop exhibition and informal networking, followed by closing reception drinks with industry awards.

The one-day event is organised by the publishers of Confectionery Production, the leading international monthly journal for the confectionery, chocolate, sweet bakery and snack industries since 1934.

Editor Neill Barston commented: “Having successfully held our debut conference online last year amid the pandemic, we are reviving our original plans for a live event in Brussels. So, we warmly welcome the wider public to our show, particularly those with an active interest in the food and drink sector who would like to gain an understanding of some of the major issues affecting our influential industries.

“Those attending will gain significant insights into major trends shaping our sector, including the ongoing plant-based product revolution, as well as the biggest wider issues of global concern. This includes how companies are reacting to the need to be mindful of their environmental responsibilities, and how they can be even more supportive of global farming communities that provide so many of our major products around the world.”
