Women's march planned for Brussels on 25 November

23:54 16/11/2017

A large demonstration against violence towards women has been called in Brussels on 25 November, with the backing of 80 women's rights organisations.

The march next Saturday coincides with the UN's International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Protestors will set off from Brussels North station at 14.00.

Sarah Scheepers, from one of the participating groups, Amazon ASBL, said: "In recent weeks, the media has reported widely on violence against women, which has caused a shockwave.

"Even in 2017, violence against women - because they are women - is still the sad reality in Belgium and elsewhere."

Organiser Mirabal Belgium says the march aims to "show our determination, show our solidarity with the victims and obtain a greater commitment from public authorities to take a stand and dedicate the necessary budget to fighting this".
