Where to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day in Brussels

21:16 15/03/2018

17 March is a day for the Irish to celebrate their history - but also a great chance for the rest of us to join the party.

The buildings lining Brussels' Grand-Place will be illuminated in green on Saint Patrick's Day, along with six other monuments elsewhere in Belgium including in Dinant, Mons and Ypres.

Here are some of The Bulletin's picks for celebrating the Irish holiday in the Belgian capital.

1. Saint Patrick's Day Parade
If you missed the big Irish party in Cinquantenaire park last Sunday, here's another big event to catch. The Irish in Europe Association is inviting everyone to wear green and "be Irish for the day" at a Saint Patrick's Day parade in the city centre on Sunday 18 March. Led by the Brussels Caledonian Corneymusers pipe band, the procession will set off from Saint-Géry at 14.30 and reach De Brouckere at 15.00.

2. Le Grand Central
Dance to typical Gaelic folk music to get into the real Saint Patrick's Day spirit. The party on Saturday is from 19.00 to 1.00 in the morning - and early arrivers can enjoy a traditional Irish stew.

3. Celtica
If you are looking for a true party, this is the place to be (until 7.00 on Sunday morning!). There will be DJs on both floors of the bar and live music. Pints of Guinness are €4.50, and there will be promotions on Irish whiskeys as well - plus prize giveaways all night. Sister pubs Michael Collins, De Valera's and the Old Oak will all be doing something special too, including live music and a full Irish breakfast on the Sunday to ease the hangover.

4. Viage
The downtown casino is getting in on the Saint Patrick's Day action with a party from 21.00 until 3.00 featuring Irish step music and a live band. Entry is €10 including a welcome drink and casino chip worth €5.

5. Hard Rock Café
Need to fill your stomach the morning after the big party? Show your Irish passport on Sunday between midday and 14.00 and you'll get 50% of the Saint Paddy's burger - a Guinness bacon cheeseburger.
