Design, art and an 8km night-time run. Here's our pick for the week

Brussels Design Market, the largest vintage market in Europe, includes more than 100 exhibitors from across Europe and focuses on 20th-century furniture and objects from the 20th-century. There are two areas with different atmospheres, one is more formal with exhibition booths, the other is more in the tradition of rummage sales and includes vintage clothes.
23-24 September, Tour et Taxis, Brussels

The Atomium honours the best in surreal artists, René Magritte - one of many events this autumn on the 50th anniversary of his death. A number of his most famous works have been brought to life with sets and scenery, allowing the visitor to step into his world.

The fourth edition of the Uptown Design Tour is two weeks of talented designers (rising or well-known) presented in 21 galleries, hotels and other high-end locations in uptown Brussels. Each designer has been carefully selected to make sure that the exposed artwork is in harmony with the venue.

In Sculpting Belgium, the Patinoire Royale presents Belgian sculpture from what is known as the Trente Glorieuses, the 30 years after the second world war. Art Deco having been mortally tarnished by its association in the public's eye with fascism, artists looked for new forms of expression. The show features the work of 29 artists who were active during the period.
Until 23 December, Patinoire Royale, Brussels

Founded in 2005, Brussels Art Square promotes, both at home and abroad, the Sablon and its surrounding area as a historic art and antiques district. The three-day event opens the doors wide on the antiques and art galleries of the district. Every year there is a country guest of honour. After the UK, Spain and Italy, it’s France’s turn this year. About 60 Belgian and French antique dealers invite you on a journey through the continents and centuries.
22-24 September, Sablon district, Brussels

The first edition of the 8km Brussels Night Run starts and ends in front of the Palace. Participants each get a headlamp and can expect colourful light displays along the route. Register via the website.

European Researchers' Night is a Europe-wide public event dedicated to popular science and fun learning. It takes place this year on 29 September. Uncover the secrets of molecular cuisine or build your own satellite, plus much more.

For the first time in Brussels there will be drone racing at the Monts des Arts by the Drone Champions League and eSports FIFA17. Forty European pilots will compete day and night with drones going from 0 to 140km/h in less than a second. Giant screen projection for ease of viewing.

The Potagers Boondael-Ernotte is a last bucolic paradise at the Ixelles-Watermael Boitsfort border. Made up of woodlands and vegetable gardens it has been threatened by development for years and a dedicated group of people have been fighting for its survival. A large piece has been lost but the fight continues. This Sunday from 13.00 there is a harvest festival, off the rue Louis Ernotte.

Les Unes Fois d’Un Soir (pictured) wants you to know that they are not just any street arts (theatre, dance, new magic) festival. They are the enfant terrible of the genre - making sure that they stick with the fundamentals of street theatre as it was practised in the 80s and 90s: for instance the spontaneity, the freedom and the non-commercial attitude. 20 Belgian and international troupes will take over the streets of Huy, that venerable city along the Meuse this Saturday during the afternoon and evening starting at 2pm. Free.

If you don’t have time to leave town and enjoy Huy’s charms, but you still want to enjoy mentalists, jugglers, tightrope walkers, a musical flying carpet and much more, the 40th edition of the Fêtes Romanes Street Theatre Festival around Wolubilis will fill the bill.
23-24 September, free
