Walibi Belgium wants to build municipal swimming pools

22:15 22/08/2017

The Walibi theme park has ambitions to team up with municipalities across Belgium to build new local swimming pools. The company is not the only one with the idea, and has competition from other companies such as Farys, Sportoase and Plopsa, writes De Tijd.

Walibi is currently trying to convince the Flemish Brabant municipality of Landen to work together on a new local swimming pool. But two more companies are interested in the public-private collaboration with the municipality.

If Walibi wins the project, it would be a first of its kind for the French owner, Compagnie des Alpes, which so far has two amusement parks in Belgium: one in Wavre that includes water park Aqualibi (pictured), and Bellewaerde in Ypres.

"In Landen, we want to build a combination between a classic public swimming pool and a recreational swimming pool," says Walibi spokeswoman Marie-France Adnet in the newspaper. The recreational area would include room for water slides and rides, she says.
