Wage watchers: How much does a De Lijn inspector earn?

14:10 03/02/2015
We asked Glenn Deprins, 42, from Zelzate what he earns and how he spends it.

What do you do for work?
I work as an inspector with De Lijn supporting the passengers and the drivers. I look out for the safety and quality of the infrastructure, the staff and the service. We help the drivers with traffic problems, and we check tickets to combat fare dodging.

Do you like your job?
Absolutely. Every day is different. I step on and never know what the day will bring. And I have cool colleagues; the atmosphere is really good.

What do you think of your salary?
I’m pretty happy with my net salary of €1,700 a month. If I work on the weekend or a holiday, I get an extra fee. So I can’t complain.

What is your biggest cost?
I recently bought a house and am in the midst of majorly renovating it. That says enough I think? (laughs)

Do you save?
As much as I can. First for my house renovations, but also for unforeseen circumstances such as costs for my car.

What do you hate spending money on?
On luxury products like a mobile phone, TV or a car.

What do you like spending money on?
On a delicious meal with my wife, friends or family.

What’s your dream?
To stay healthy.
