Wage Watchers: How much does a credit manager earn?

17:13 17/01/2014
Credit manager Tinne Vandevoorde, 29, from Gullegem talks about what she earns and how she spends it.

What do you do?
For about five years I’ve been working as a credit manager at a BMW garage. In concrete terms, that means I follow up on clients who can’t make their payments. Every month I send out a reminder. If they don’t contact me, I call them up the following week. No two work days are the same; it’s all a bit unpredictable. For instance, a lot of the clients can be friendly, but others can be a bit aggressive.

Do you enjoy the work?
Yes, very much. I get a lot of satisfaction if I’m able to get a difficult client to pay. If I’ve had to send a lot of reminders and make a lot of phone calls, and after a lot of fuss things still manage to work out, that feels good.

What do you think of the pay?
I earn €1,400 a month net. I’m quite happy with my salary. Since I didn’t go on to study further, I think the pay is pretty good. I wouldn’t say no to a bit more, obviously, but I’m certainly not complaining.

How many hours a week do you work?
38 hours a week, but I’ll soon be taking maternity leave, and after that I’ll be working 80%.

Do you manage to save anything?
We try to put something aside every month. Among other things, we’re saving for renovations to the house and other big investments.

What do you dislike to spend money on?
Shoes and beauty products. I find it hard to throw my money away on things like that.

What do you like to spend money on?
Travelling, and clothes for my daughter.

What would you do if you won the Lottery?
I’d buy a boat, and cruise to Italy, one of my favourite holiday destinations.
