Wage watchers: How much does a communications co-ordinator earn?

12:45 27/10/2014

What do you do for work?
I coordinate the campaigns developed by the communications office of Square Melon. That means I make sure that everything goes according to plan. I function as a liaison between the people in the field, the logistics and the commercial employees. So I make sure, for example, that all the field staff leave on time or that the action starts on time, or, if there are problems, how can we best solve them or communicate them to the client.

Do you like your job?
Yes, I love to process a lot of information at once and to find creative solutions. I also really like the element of crisis management.

What do you think of your salary?
I earn €1,300 a month net, which is a fair salary for my job description. Maybe I could earn more somewhere else, but Square Melon is a big company, and I see a lot of potential for growth there.

Do you save money?
I can save because I work on the side as a freelancer. By training, I’m a blacksmith, and occasionally I still do some ironwork in my free time. I save between €250 and €300 per month. I also have retirement savings, and once in a while I invest money in the stock market.

Do you watch your money more as a result of the crisis?
No, I think that in times of crisis you need to invest money into society. To get out of the crisis, you have to let it roll. That’s why I think it’s a good idea to buy bank shares. When the crisis is over, they will certainly be worth more.

What do you like spending money on?
Relaxing is important. I like to spend money on going out or on ski trips.

What would you do if you won the lottery?
Above all, I would keep my mouth shut and keep working. It seems to me it would be a good idea to invest the winnings in property, but I would definitely not be going to live in the Bahamas.
