Video: Reckless motorway driver jailed for two years
A reckless driver nicknamed the "pirate of the E314" motorway has been jailed for two years after a video of him swerving and suddenly braking on the Leuven-Lummen motorway went viral.
The Brussels Court of Appeal on Tuesday convicted Curd V. of 11 acts of aggressive driving between September 2012 and December 2014.
He was originally sentenced to 18 months in prison by a criminal court in Leuven but appealed the decision. He failed to turn up to the appeal court hearing and was convicted in absentia.
In 2014, a video of Curd V. driving recklessly was widely shared on Facebook. The video was filmed by van driver Chris Verhaegen using a dashcam and the footage handed over to police.
After seeing the video online, other drivers came forward to report instances of reckless driving by the same vehicle. Curd V. was then arrested on 11 counts of reckless driving.
He has previous convictions for aggressive driving, VAT fraud and bodily harm, reports La Capitale.
