US Election Night: Tickets selling fast for the 8 November party

Brussels’ expats are snapping up the 1,000 tickets on sale for the hottest party in town. With no tickets sold at the door, pre-booking is essential if you want to enjoy the live experience.

“This is one of our flagship events,” says ACB president Brian Dunhill. His message to the international community: “Come and learn about the democratic process of the presidential election at a non-partisan event and have an enjoyable experience.”

After 2012’s packed all-night party in the Luxembourg quarter, the 2016 edition is moving to the Brussels Marriott Hotel, close to the Bourse in the city centre. “This is a much nicer venue with a gorgeous ballroom and there are advantages to being downtown,” says Dunhill.

“For security reasons, everyone has to register. This will help us manage crowd flow as it will no longer be first come, first served. The area will be blockaded and there will be minimum queuing, making this a more comfortable experience for everyone,” he adds.

After eight years under President Obama, all eyes are on the 2016 US presidential race as seasoned Democrat politician Hillary Clinton goes head to head with controversial Republican contender Donald Trump. Replicating the tussle taking place across the Atlantic, Belgian Democrats Abroad and Republicans Overseas will take to the floor at the Marriott Hotel to stage a debate. There will be rolling coverage of the election process with the first results expected to trickle in after midnight. A clear winner may not emerge until breakfast time. “We didn’t hear about Obama winning in 2012 until about 8am,” recalls Dunhill.

It’s not all politics. North Carolina-based blue-grass trio the Kruger Brothers, are set to play new American folk music. Born and raised in Europe, brothers Jens (banjo, vocals) and Uwe Kruger (guitar, lead vocals) are joined by NYC native Joel Landsberg (bass, vocals). And to maintain energy levels throughout the night, there will be US-style refreshments, including West Coast wines, hot dogs and other specialities.
