US applauds Belgian aid to Ebola countries

11:30 31/10/2014

US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power was in Brussels yesterday to meet development cooperation minister Alexander De Croo, health minister Maggie De Block and the newly appointed Ebola coordinator, Dr Erika Vlieghe. Power praised Belgium for its efforts in the fight against Ebola, referring to the more than €35 million made available for humanitarian aid.

Before her visit to Belgium, Power spent the past few days visiting the West African countries affected by Ebola, where she observed Belgium’s contribution to the rescue efforts first-hand. "She expressed great appreciation for our efforts there. About 30% of our humanitarian aid now goes to Sierra Leone and Guinea," De Croo told De Morgen.
