unregistering in Germany

Question

Hello!
Maybe there's a German out there who can give me some information. I am German and am living and working in Brussels for more than 2 years now. Upon arrival, I registered with my Brussels commune and got the Belgian registration card (E+). I never unregistered in my German registration office though. I initially tried to put my parents address as secondary address, but you can't have a secondary without a primary address in Germany, so I put my parents' address as primary one. However, as I am sure I won't be moving back to Germany in the near future, I now want to unregister there for good. Is there anything else than unregistering in Germany that I have to do? Do I then have to register here in the German Embassy? What happens to my "Perso", which now has my parents' address on the back? It's the only document where I have my maiden and married name (Belgian card only has married name). Danke & thanks for your help :-)

There is in principle nothing wrong with keeping your registration in your parents' place. In some cases it might come in handy. If you want to deregister, just go to see the Meldebehörde next time you visit your parents, carry your documents confirming you are now registered in Belgium.
You do not have to register with the Embassy here, but it is useful to do so. For instance if the validity of your ID card ends, you can go to them to have an extension or a new card. Same for your passport. They will then enter your Belgian address on the ID card, I think.
Ich hoffe, das hilft Ihnen weiter .....
