Union rally to hinder access to Brussels Central Station

07:40 06/10/2015

Brussels public transportation network STIB expects Wednesday's national demonstration to block access to Central Station, especially between 12.00 and 17.00. Access to the stations Bruxelles-Chapelle and Congrès will also be limited. Belgian rail company SNCB will add extra trains to bring protesters to Brussels, writes brusselnieuws.be.

Six unions and union confederations organised the demonstration to protest against government austerity measures.

The route of the rally goes from the North Station to South Station, but not via the central avenues. At Place Rogier, demonstrators will follow the inner ring to the Cathedral and Central Station. After Boulevard de l'Empereur, the rally continues right onto Rue des Alexiens, before heading to South Station via Lemonnier.

Access to Central Station and the stations of Congrès and Bruxelles-Chapelle will therefore be restricted on Wednesday afternoon, SNCB warns. Central Station will only be accessible via the underground passage and Horta entrance.
