Uefa gives Brussels two months to guarantee Euro 2020 matches

00:00 21/09/2017

Brussels will lose the right to host four Euro 2020 football matches if it cannot reassure Uefa within two months that the new Eurostadium at Heysel will be ready in time.

The European football governing body met on Wednesday to discuss Brussels' status as one of 13 host cities for the 2020 tournament.

The city has been given a 20 November deadline to have all the relevant building permits granted to start construction. Uefa has also demanded "a realistic and guaranteed construction schedule" by this date.

Stockholm, Cardiff and London's Wembley stadium are being considered as replacement options should Brussels fail to deliver on time. The Uefa executive committee will make a final decision on 7 December.
