Train journeys within Brussels

Question

I learned that train journeys within Brussels can be paid via the MOBIB card. I was at Schulman the other day. I did not really understand how it works. I did not find a place to click my MOBIB card. Does my 10- journey- ride tickets work or was I supposed to buy a single ticket by train for 2.30 euros into my MOBIB as I saw a MOBIB place in a ticket vendor? I would appreciate your answers. Thanks a lot.

10-journey will cover you. There's a mobib beeper at the train stations.

If you have a monthly or annual pass, you need an MTB pass, which covers train as well, as opposed to the cheaper STIB pass, which does not cover the train.

Just to add, you need to go to one of the automated ticket machines at the station, put your mobib on it, and follow instructions. A trip like this is called a Jump in SNCB terminology, so it's not obvious that you can do this. You can also load more trips on using the machine, and they can be used on metro, buses etc as well.

To combine both answers, 1,5 and 10 journeys can be put on a MOBIB and they are all valid on the SNCB trains, de Lijn and TEC buses in Brussels MTB area which is on the STIB website indicated.

Monthly and years tickets must be MTB not STIB tariff to use the trains.

If you have a monthly and yearly STIB ticket and want to occasionally use the train in Brussels too, just ad a 1 or 5 or 10 journey ticket onto the same MOBIB and when you touch at a relevant train station, it deducts the single ticket.

Thanks for all the answers. I am sorry to take more time but, just to clarify: For ex, in Schuman, I could not see anything to validate. Is it OK to validate on the metro readers? CM kindly answered
'Just to add, you need to go to one of the automated ticket machines at the station, put your mobib on it, and follow instructions'. So do I have to validate on relevant train machines or if I validate on a metro click, would that be OK too?
Thanks to all.

Somewhere in Schuman there will be a red card reader machine like the ones you get inside buses and trams. Ask a member of staff if you cannot find it.

It's the machines in the stations marked "Tickets" - you can see what they look like in this video:

Ignore CM who has not read your question, you didn't ask what a ticket machine looks like, you asked the location of the red MOBIB validation machines. The obvious place to look is between the ticket machines and platform but you never know. Good luck finding them.

CM might be right.

This says go to the machine and validate there. There must be a means of placing your mobib card on the machine.

"CM might be right".

CM is right, he does it twice every weekday.
