Train from Brussels to Zaventem Airport

Question

Hi All,

I just bought a standard train ticket online from Brussels Central to Zaventem airport. I actually want to travel from Stockel metro to the airport, and since the ticket just says "Zone Brussel" to Zaventem I'm wondering if its valid already from Stockel, or whether I need to buy a separate metro ticket to Central. Anyone know?

Thanks!

Rico

Zone Brussels means any train station in Brussels, not a metro. So yes, you need a separate metro ticket to Central.

Since you are in Stockel it might make more sense timewise to take the metro to Schumann and get the STIB express busses 12 or 21 (depends on time of day or day itself - the 12 goes to the airport weekdays during the day and the 21 goes to the airport weekday evenings after 8pm and all day on Sat Sun and Hols). Of course, you can't use your SNCB ticket if you do this.

If you are travelling during the week, it would make sense to take the metro from Stockel to Schuman and then change to the train. The train from Schuman to the airport takes only 17 minutes; bus 12 takes at least 30 minutes, bus 21 even longer. Plus from Stockel to Schuman it's only 14 minutes whereas Stockel to Gare Centrale is 19 minutes. It's the same metro line, you just get out earlier.

The train from Schuman to the airport does not run during the weekend, however.

From stockel to zaventem airport it s best to take metro to roodebeek then de lijn bus 659 and 359. It s the quickest and cheapest public transport. Cheaper than 12 21bus and train.

The train to Brussels airport is notorious for massive delays. I would avoid it if I could. Take the bus, which is usually much more punctual.

I've never found the bus more punctual than the train
