Traffic to City of Brussels website up 20% last year

10:09 24/01/2016

Brussels.be, the official website of the City of Brussels, attracted a fifth more visitors in 2015 than the year before. The website last year had an average of about 21,440 unique visitors per day, writes Brusselnieuws.

There were three significant peaks in traffic to the site in 2015: Car-Free Sunday on 22 September (59,200 visitors), the change to terror alert level 4 on 22 November (57,201 visits) and the Belgian national holiday on 21 July (52,595 visits).

"Brussels.be was always intended to be a place for locals, commuters and tourists to find answers to their questions,” informatics minister Mohamed Ouriaghli told Brusselnieuws. “The continuous rise in visitor numbers shows that this goal has been met. And because the site meets the standards of responsive design, as many as four in 10 visitors use a mobile device."

The site is increasingly accessed via mobile devices, with 29.2% of the visitors in 2015 accessing Brussels.be via their smartphone, and 9.5% via a tablet.

Brussels.be was launched in 2009. In that first year, the website had 1.2 million visitors, compared to 7.8 million visitors in 2015, an increase of 515.7%.
