Tonsillectomy

Question

Has any of you had their tonsils removed around the age of 30 years or more? If so, was it very difficult and how long did you stay in hospital?

Emille B.

I had tonsillectomy at 5 years old , an it was horrible, it was a day clinic and I woke up during the operation..
At around 30 years of age I had a vasectomy on recommendation of my banker , and life is fun since then.

I had my tonsils out at age 28 - It was done as an outpatient/dayclinic procedure (not in Belgium) and was quite easy. My throat was very raw/sore for a few days and somewhat sore for about a week. Lots of popsicles/icelollies are in order for the first few days- the cold helps the pain and the slow melting means you won't have to swallow too hard (swallowing was not fun°. Since having my tonsils out, I have much fewer infections and sleep better too! Good luck!

Hi Mimi things have changed a lot in recent years ignore Millie, as a child she would have had a choice or understood what was happening the same as an adult. Ask your doctor how long you would need to stay in. A few years ago they started to encourage people to eat more solid food sooner like cornflakes, this helps clean off the area was the theory. They used to offer ice cream then that went out of fashion with doctors. I do agree the ice lollies would be good. Also soluble pain killers that you gable and much better than repeated infections maybe even if it's sore
