Tomorrowland visitors caught drinking and driving

10:59 28/07/2014

Belgian police on Sunday night systematically inspected a total of 429 vehicles on the A12, one of the roads leaving the site of Tomorrowland, a massive electronic music festival in Boom. Of the 24 drivers given a breathalyser test, 5.6% blew positive, meaning they had more than the 0.2% limit of alcohol in their blood to be legal to drive. Seven licenses were revoked.

There were also two positive saliva tests, indicating recreational drug use, according to Peter De Waele, spokesman for the federal police. De Waele notes that most young people opt not to drive, instead leaving together in a taxi or having their parents come pick them up from the festival.

A similar police inspection after the first weekend of Tomorrowland found that 9.4% of the checked drivers had been drinking too much.
