Ticket inspectors attacked in Brussels metro

09:28 27/07/2015

A group of Stib/MIVB ticket inspectors were attacked on Sunday at around 7.00 by a group of youths at Brussels’ Porte de Hal metro. Four of the inspectors had to be taken to hospital as a result of the injuries they sustained.

The gang of youths who attacked the inspectors, around five individuals out of a group of 15, had not bought a ticket for their journey. "It started off as verbal abuse but then blows were exchanged. The inspectors called for reinforcements. The other half of the team joined them, but they owe their rescue to the arrival of the police," said a union source.

Four inspectors had to be taken to hospital. Three of them suffered severe bruising. The chief inspector suffered a broken foot.

No mention of whether the fare dodgers (aka trouble makers) were detained by police. Why have STIB made it so easy for these people to get in and out of the metro stations. The barriers installed are not sufficient and there is no need to use card to exit from platform. I have been in Porte de Namur metro station and seen young guys jump over the barriers in full view of everyone!

Metro is a joke. Have had individuals push me through (me having paid) so person can get in free, no one pays at Anderlecht abbattoir every weekend, and the glass doors serve NO purpose--have used metro and tram for 40 years and never had or seen a control---every single person who gets on should swipe card even if -abonnement---i do not think anyone pays but me!
