Taxis also go on strike

12:01 03/10/2012

The Association of Brussels Taxis has called for a citywide strike next Wednesday, October 10. The drivers’ discontent is caused by a project from Brussels transport minister Brigitte Grouwels, who wants all vehicles to be equipped with new meters. The devices cost €3,300 to install – a sum Grouwels wants drivers or their firms to pay. Grouwels says she is “surprised” by the strike notice, while her spokesperson said that the amount mentioned in the press was “highly inflated”, adding that “according to [their] sources, the actual cost would be about half of what was quoted”.
