Taxi price estimation, finding good price

Question

I am going 17min/25KM out of Brussels tomorrow morning.
Is there some way I can estimate the cost with a Taxi?
Are there specific cheap services I can use?
Or some kind of auction?
(It is not easy to reach by public transport).

J

Taxis Bleus or Taxis Verts will give you a fixed price quote - ring up.

You can also email taxi auto lux, through their contact form.

www.taxisautolux.be/en/contact.html

They get back to you within 10 min or less with a fixed price.
Also, when going out of Brussels to some of the suburbs, we take the public transport to the farthest place that we can, and from there we reserve a taxi and sometimes the fare is 5-10 euros less than taking it from where we live.

And i've had colleagues use www.carpool.be, but I've never used it.

Send them an email http://taxizaventem.be/en and you will get a fixed quote.

Do not forget to mention your address and your drop off point as well as the hour.

I wholeheartedly recommend UBER- I got a ride at 4am to the airport for 17 euros, no taxi would have come close to that.

sign up is easy, using the app is easy and there is no exchange of cash- it's all just a few taps on the phone. All controlled by you and and the driver together.

NB: And this was before the taxi standoff of last week (which kept me in traffic for 3 hours!- After which I have BANNED taxi's from my vocabulary ;-)

I agree with THEMISSUS. Use UBER - it's much cheaper and you know exactly how much it will cost in advance.

Is uber still working? I thought they were suspended...

Yes, Uber are still working fine. There's been a lot of noise about shutting them down, but nothing has ever happened.

Uber. Try it. I have had brilliant experience with it. If you use the code sharonl602, you will get 10€ off your first ride :-)

Out of interest -- Do Uber drivers have to pass the same tests as "taxi" drivers? not rocking the boat -- just inquisitive -- If you drive commercially (including taxi's -- you have to have a medical every five years and more often if over a certain age. -- maybe I'm too old - but newfangled technology phases me a bit
