Tax

Question

I need some quick answers to a couple of basic tax questions for someone who has to complete a Belgian tax form for tomorrow.

Someone just started work in Belgium for the first time. He owns a house in Ireland which is rented for 1000 per month and mortgage free. Since last year he owns a house in Belgium on which he has a mortgage. (1) Is the rent from the Irish house subject to income tax in Belgium? (2) Does he have any tax liability in Ireland from his Belgian income (its around 3000 gross per month).

Thanks for any quick info. Sorry I know these are basic questions but we dont have time to look things up and read loads of info to find out.

Kerry

The rent from your house in Ireland is not subject to tax in Belgium but it is subject to tax in Ireland. Thisinfo is all on the Revenue.ie site Strictly speaking your tenant should withhold the tax and submit it to the Revenue if you live abroad. However the Revenue will accept it from you diectly too. You are also obliged to put this information in your Belgian tax return but you will not be taxed on it here. The Belgian income is taxed here - no liability in Ireland.
