Someone to hem curtains

Question

I have some curtains from Ikea that I'd like to have shortened. This is a pretty easy job for someone who has a sewing machine and does this for a living. Any suggestions where I can find someone to do it?

You don't seem to be getting much response so here is my suggestion.
My late wife was a superb seamstress. She designed and made a huge range of things from her own clothing to stuff around the house including curtains.
There are currently at least 10 pairs of curtains here which she made - every one is hemmed by hand. Since I've been alone I have moved things around and found that a pair of curtains to cover a 3.5 metres wide window needed hemming. I don't thing it took longer than 30 minutes and my biggest problem was threading the needle!
If you hem by machine and ever need to unfasten the hem, you will have a far more serious job that if it is hand sown AND you will be left with an obvious line of holes on the material.
Hang your curtains to let the material stretch. The heavier the material, the longer they should hang but you should think of a month or more unless they are very light and thin. Then hem them. If you don't hang them for long enough you may find that you need to make adjustments in a few months time.
Good luck.

It looks better if you don't hem curtains. What you do is you cut the fabric as if you were going to hem them and pin up the hem with just one turn up of the fabric (leave the raw edge of fabric showing on the wrong side of the curtain). Then you need a simple tape that you can buy in most places that sell thread (probably Veritas will have it). The tape has backing on both sides that will need to be removed as you work.

You place the tape into the hem space by sticking it in place as you remove one side of the backing). Then you remove the backing on the other side of the tape and iron the hem down on top of it. The fabric will then be stuck to the tape on both sides and the hem will look much better than if you had clumpy sewing and turn ups.
