SNCB prepares for weekend rush to Belgian coast
The SNCB is putting on extra trains to the seaside, with coastal businesses hoping for a late-season boost in trade as temperatures are forecast in the low- to mid-20s this weekend.
There will be one extra train from Hasselt and Leuven to Ostend via Brussels on both Saturday and Sunday - and three extra trains each afternoon to help day-trippers get home.
Lifeguards will be on patrol at Ostend and Blankenberge. Along the rest of the Belgian coast, bathing is prohibited.
Early-morning mist and fog in rural areas will clear on Saturday to make way for a sunny day throughout the country. Temperatures are forecast to reach 19°C on the coast on Saturday and up to 22°C in Brussels. Sunday will be warmer, with highs of 24°C.
The good weather will continue into Monday, but temperatures will fall back to seasonal norms on Tuesday and rain is forecast on Wednesday.
