Shopping soldier relieved of duties

14:44 22/12/2015

The Belgian soldier who was spotted on Monday carrying a shopping bag during a surveillance mission has been relieved of his duties following a disciplinary investigation, reports De Standaard. The photo of the man in uniform spread like wildfire on social media, as it showed the soldier patrolling the De Brouckère area of Brussels while carrying a shopping bag from a popular brand of personal care products.

Unimpressed by the soldier's unprofessional attitude, the federal defence ministry immediately suspended him and initiated disciplinary proceedings. The ministry also took the opportunity to remind all soldiers not to commit any more “stupidities”.

Does this also apply to cops getting cigarettes and pizza, not to mention beer in uniform?

In the Le Soir's readers' comments section. this photo was compared to the photo of King Philip relaxing at a thalassotherapy spa in France reading a book while back home in "his" Belgium, the country was virtually locked down and on high alert for terrorist attacks. No one talked about relieving him of his highly (over-) paid duties if I remember correctly.
