Sergio Herman to open Brussels gourmet chip shop
Dutch star chef Sergio Herman will open a gourmet chip shop in Brussels and Ghent - and is also hoping for an outlet at Brussels airport.
Herman, who has three Michelin stars for his work at The Jane in Antwerp, announced the expansion of his Frites Atelier concept on Wednesday.
The upscale chip restaurants began with three outlets in the Netherlands, including in Amsterdam. The first Belgian branch opened in Antwerp in late 2016.
A portion of fries, made from Zeeland potatoes cooked in vegetable oil, will start at €3.50, while “pimped up” versions stretch to €8.50.
Customers can pick from five homemade mayonnaise-based sauces – basil, truffle, andalouse, classic and béarnaise – or opt for gourmet toppings like Indo peanut sauce, Flemish stew and a fiery kimchi special.
Exact opening dates and addresses for Brussels and Ghent are not yet confirmed.
