A Saudi chemical waste treatment plant could be set up in the Port of Antwerp, at a cost of €3.7 billion and creating 900 jobs.

Following a market study, the Port of Antwerp’s board stated its preference to engage in negotiations with the Saudi company, Energy Recovery Systems, with a view to filling the space in  the Delwaidedok area of the port which is currently lying empty after the departure of the maritime company MSC.

"The port’s board has considered the results of the market study started at the end of last year. On the basis of the applications received, the board came to the conclusion that the project entered by Energy Recovery Systems is the most suitable,” the port disclosed on Monday night. "The port authority has been commissioned to push forward the negotiations with the Saudi company in order to secure a concession agreement.
