Salary advice

Question

I am evaluating a job offer from a company in Gent, Belgium. I have been offered 3000 euro/month plus commuting allowance, insurance and healthcare.

If I accept the offer I will be moving there with my wife and our 3-year old daughter. It would be great if somebody can help me with the following:
1) how much tax do I have to pay on gross salary of 3000 euro and what will be my net salary?
2) What is the average rent for a 2-bedroom apartment/house (decent not lavish) in Gent?
3) Can I hope to save some money?

4) what are the average utility (gas, electricity, internet, phone) costs?
I do understand costs vary depending on one's lifestyle and spending habits and it may be difficult to put everything in numbers. so, any ballpark estimate or numbers based on your own experiences would be fine.

Where are you coming from? The UK?
Obviously we all have different lifestyles but I would say on that salary we are talking about getting by rather than saving. It's not a massive amount for a family of three. Someone else may be able to give you a more precise answer for your net pay but I reckon between 1,500/2,000 a month. You should get a tax allowance if your wife doesn't work and some benefit for you child. Ask the HR department for an exact breakdown of your net pay taking into account your circumstances. Pay here is slightly complex because there is this strange 13.92 months thing that takes a while to kick in, so people are often paid less for the first year whilst they play catchup. You really should get the company to explain in detail so you get a better understanding.

Internet, TV and Phone seems to be more expensive than the UK as does some of the grocery shopping. Gas and Electricity seem to be expensive everywhere these days.

Will you run your own car? I think these costs can be pretty high as well.

You’ve dreamed of them – they can be yours. On the second-hand market, these relatively recent models only cost a fraction of their original value. So, rather than buy a reliable German turbo sedan, why not plump for one of these titans...
