Saint-Josse businesses get €2,000 for roadwork disruption

22:37 21/02/2018

Saint-Josse will pay out €2,000 in compensation to every shop and restaurant affected by the massive sinkhole which cut off the Chaussée de Louvain for three months last year.

The amount also applies to any other public roadworks carried out by the municipality in the future - within a radius defined by the town hall itself.

To benefit from the compensation, businesses must be located with the allowed area and have suffered at least 60 working days of disruption because of roadworks. Claim forms will be posted on the Saint-Josse website.

The 36m² sinkhole that opened up in the middle of Chaussée de Louvain last September was caused by a water main bursting under the street. The railway line running underneath was flooded with mud and more than 200 residents had to leave their homes.

The road was repaired and reopened to traffic shortly before Christmas.
