Rue de Laeken and Rue du Midi reopen to traffic

14:06 23/04/2016

Rue de Laeken and Rue du Midi will reopen to traffic in both directions, the aldermen of the City of Brussels announced on Thursday. The amendment to the circulation plan should help lure more people back to the city centre, writes Bruzz.

For Rue de Laeken, the decision is final, according to Brussels mayor Yvan Mayeur. The change will allow motorists from the inner ring road to again enter the city centre via Porte d'Anvers.

Rue du Midi will return to a two-way between Place Rouppe and Rue des Alexiens, and reopen on the stretch between Rue des Alexiens and Rue du Lombard.

Increased pressure from local businesses forced the city council to take action, as many business owners reported dramatic losses since the introduction of the pedestrian zone in the summer of 2015.
