Right of Return (Annex 18)

Question

I'm leaving Belgium for one year or so -- maybe more maybe less. The municipality office (Commune Schaerbeek) told me I need to request a document called annexe 18 (right of return) so that I can keep my residence in case I come back within one year. See: http://www.schaerbeek.be/news/comptez-quitter-territoire-belge-durant-pl...

However, they said they will take my residence card (E+) and cancel my national register number from their files when they will give me this annexe 18.

Question now: shall I request this annexe 18, what are the disadvantages? I still need to keep my banking, mobile number and health insurance here in Belgium but I will not be renting an apartment any longer.

Anyone with experiences?

I have Italian nationality and moving to another EU country.

You're Italian, you have an automatic right to return, you don't need it.

On the other hand, you certainly do not want to remain registered here, 1) you have no address here and 2) you'll still be liable for Belgian income taxes.

You should ask for a "Modèle 8", which is the form to say you're leaving the country.
