Repost/Update: Redundancy- Am I owed it?
Hi everyone!
I need to know if I'm entitled to Severance Pay!
My employer who sacked me says I'm not entitled to severance pay:
The facts:
I’ve been sacked, and I am now in my ‘notice period’ ie, they’ve given me 3 months to ‘PFO’, ie 'get out', so my contract will end Dec 31 2011- my contract WAS indefinite
The reason given was vague, and total BS in my opinion-and was NOT due to anything even remotely bad, like stealing staplers, etc..
Then suddenly! They've hired someone cheaper in another country to do my job!!
My older, wiser friend tells me I AM entitled to some kind of pay-out, however small (2 months salary would be a huge help for me, etc..)
But when I initially asked at work, the HR lady told me- ‘they don’t do that’..HMMM?
They certainly screwed me over work-wise, but I don’t wanna make waves unless I’m right- can someone shed some light on this?!
