Renting and managing apartment while abroad
I haven't done it here but we did rent out our home in the UK for a while, the advantage of having a management company is they collect the rent, act as intermediate when issue arise in plumbing etc. they also vetted our prospective tenants, even then we did have issue from some which I won't go into. It does also mean that you have evidence for the tax man of what you paid in and out. The negative side was mostly that you pay a cost and sometimes they didn't seem to be on our side when we had issue they were well we can't intervine
Hi,
We are looking for a 3 bedroom apartment here, preferably with a garden - what's your apartment like?
Thanks!
If your property is in good condition and the tenants are unlikely to have problems requiring your attention, then you could easily manage it yourself. You would ideally get it rented and all the paperwork done before you leave Belgium and you would at least need someone to hold a set of keys and ideally have a handyman that you could easily contact if needed. It also depend on where you would be located yourself - in case of emergency could you get here in a matter of hours? We've let our property in another European country in a far less regulated market and it's always worked out fine. Ideally get to know your tenants and treat them fairly and they tent to respond accordingly. good luck
