Renewing US Passport via Brussels Embassy

Question

Hi,
Has anyone renewed their US passport via the Brussels embassy? They are only available to answer questions from 8:00am-10:00am, and when you eventually get through they can't provide any answers.
I want to know how long the renewal process takes. They say you cannot pay for an expedited process, and I'm in a bit of a time crunch.
Thanks!

R.Harris

i renewed my passport this past Spring. I did it under their renew by mail option. It was very easy and didn't take long. Only works with 10 year passports.

It often takes only a week from the moment of application to get the new passport. If you need to go to the embassy, you'll need an appointment which can be done via their website.

@R.Harris did you also experience a very fast turn around time? I'm hoping I will have the new passport in my possession within two weeks. Do you think this is realistic if I renew via mail? (I have a 10yr passport)

Yes I got it very quickly but they claim "up to fifteen working days" though that doesn't mean it has to take that long.
Important: so you don't incur any delays, if your credit card is based outside the US you need to call the credit card company and have them extend your charging area to include the US for x number of days (I had it for two weeks) because the payment is made in the US.

Also be sure that the photos you submit are US size not European size. The photog shop on the rue des Celtes just off the Avenue de Tervuren knows what to do and gave me a discount.

Late to the party, but I got mine done, and it took less than 2 weeks; in fact, about 7 business days. I went on a monday, had it the next tuesday. I was surprised as I was expecting a month process or so.
