Registering address change at the commune

Question

Hi All,

I recently moved to WSP from Antwerp, and went to the commune to register my address change nearly a month ago. I was told the police would contact me so they could plan the standard visit to make sure I live there etc, and I would get a paper from them to take back to the commune, but so far ive heard nothing. Is it normal to have to wait this long?

Depends on commune maybe they have sent away for papers from your last commune. Allow 6 weeks and pop back in if they haven't. Even in one commune change of addressed can be long winded

Yes. Sometimes they leave a note but in others they will keep calling back until they actually find you in the house.

Ok thanks for the advice. ill wait a bit longer then. Only small problem I have is that I was given a temporary street parking permit, which expires next week and cant be exchanged for a proper one until I'm officially registered...

Don't worry about it. You are registered in your new borough (in your case WSP) so you have done what is required. Whether the police actually ever see you there is not important.
Go back and get your permanent parking permit when you need it.

When we moved in to WSP, the police came within a couple of weeks - but we live very close to the police station. And when we were out they left a card so we could 'phone them.
