Refund on cost of glasses

Question

If I get glasses made on the basis of a prescription from an ophthalmologist, what is the basis for refund of the cost of the glasses? In other words, if the lenses are about 180 and the frame is 150, about how much can I expect to get back?

This is a sore point for me with the Mutuelles :-(
I need glasses to see, and yet the cost is very very high indeed!

For frames and lenses- 450 euros!
PartenaMut says they will give 50 euros for glasses every 3 years (2 weeks old info.)

I was told if u have a doctors prescription not just an optician the refund was better. Also my friend say pearl are cheap and reasonable but personally I drive to canterbury and go to vision express

it depends on your mutuality. mine pays €50 every two years. indeed, compared to the cost of glasses, it's minimal.

So it looks like you pay 60 to the doctor, of which get back 30, and also 50 for the glasses, giving you a net refund of 20. When you factor in the cost and time of your trip to the doctor, it is not attractive.

Like most insurance, they avoid paying out on what you need most. Insurance is damned good business. Not if you are paying for it though.

Check out specsavers on the net, I was in UK last year and asked, the shop checked for me and said they could do it. You will need to get your eyes tested here, but it maybe worth giving them a ring. I think they may even be in Holland.
