Quick fast-food chain remains as Burger King comes to Belgium

Despite the opening of 30 to 40 Burger King branches across Belgium in the next few years, the French hamburger chain Quick will remain for the time being, writes De Standaard.

Belgium's first Burger King branch opens this summer, and it's only the first of many, said Kevin Derycke, CEO of Burger Brands Belgium in an interview with Le Soir. "There will be some 30 to 40 new restaurants,” he said.

After the takeover of the Quick brand by Kharis Capital, licensee of Burger King, it initially seemed that the Quick brand would disappear altogether.

But that will not happen. "We never intended to get rid of the Quick brand, but develop it further," Derycke told the newspaper. It is possible that some Quick branches become Burger Kings, but only a small minority, according to Derycke. Converting all of the restaurants would be difficult, anyway, he said, because 80% of the hundreds of Quick branches are operated by independent store managers.

"Giant and Whopper will coexist for a long time to come," he assured, referring to the two companies' signature burgers.
