Today there was a general speed limit of 50kph throughout Greater Brussels because of the smog threat.
I of course kept carefully at or just under the limit. Great as was the satisfaction this gave me for civic reasons, this was as nothing compared to the satisfaction I got from noting the frustration of numerous drivers all impatient to go faster but unable to do so because I was in the way.
Best of all were the hoots and gestures I got, provocations to which I resonded but rarely with a languid upward gesture of my right hand with middle finger extended.
Vive le smog!
