official mail previous tenant

Question

The previous tenant left the appartment I am presently renting without leaving a forwarding address/informing the relevant supplies/authorities. It appears that these letter relate to outstanding debts. This has been going on for the past four months (tenant left 10 months ago). frankly I just leave the letters in the reception area and most times I assume they are picked up by the postperson.... What should I do to ensure I no longer receive other persons's mail?

Take the letters to the post office and tell them that they no longer live there. You could also send them back to the sender, just put not known at this address and pop it in the mailbox. Ignoring them isn't a good idea as if they are debts you could end up with the baliff at your door.

We did have a similar situation several years ago and simply wrote on the envelope and posted the mail back into any post box
Along the lines:
"Madame/Monsieur **********, n'habite plus cette adresse"

If the mail is addressed to your specific apartment you should definitely do something about it rather than just hope that it will be dealt with by someone from the Post Office.
Write 'Onbekende', or the suggestion above depending on where you live, on the envelope and pop it in any mail box.
You should also make sure that your landlord is aware of the situation as the previous tenant should certainly have given a forwarding address to people like the power suppliers if the supply contract was taken over by the landlord or yourself.
