Obama honours World Cup bet with Belgium

10:34 15/09/2014

US president Barack Obama honoured a bet set by Belgian prime minister Elio Di Rupo during the World Cup in June by sending a couple of half-cases of Samuel Adams beer to the Belgian Embassy in Washington on Friday.

Before Belgium took on the US in their World Cup last 16 match, Di Rupo bet Obama "some great Belgian beers" on Twitter that the Red Devils would make it to the quarter-finals. In a thrilling match, Belgium went onto beat the US, 2-1. Until now, Obama had not responded.

The beer arrived at the Embassy with a handwritten note from the US President. It reads: “Congrats to the Belgium Team on its World Cup round of 16 win.… The United States keeps its word, so I hope our friends at the Embassy here in Washington enjoy this case of Sam Adams.

"As Americans, we’re always grateful for the partnership with our Belgian allies. Except on the pitch. See you in 2018.”

Mmmhh... This is all very nice, but what do you really expect of friends ? That they stick to the truth. It would be even nicer if the US got its act together and started explaining how a few Belgians died on 9/11 taking into account scientific truths and facts that have been overlooked in the official 'inquiry'. Reopen 9/11 before you go, Mr Obama. Watch this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhllqmXxyXM&feature=youtu.be Then we can enjoy beer together.

You have to be kidding! There was a major inquiry as to what happened on 11 September. There were far more Americans, English, and other nationalities killed on that day in the towers. I do not see other nations complaining of some sort of whitewash, conspiracy. When airplanes full of fuel hit the center of a tall tower, it does not take a scientist to think the tower might topple. Let the victims lie in peace and let us move on.
