Isn’t it annoying when you unplug your laptop and the cable just drops on to the ground? One way to keep this from happening is by using old Lego figures as cable holders; their hands are perfectly sized for most charging cables. But if you’re not the playful type there are more elegant cable holders available, like those by American manufacturer BlueLounge, which sells a plethora of products in this category in many designs and colours. €10-€15

Clean sweep

Offices all over the world are in the home stretch of becoming truly paperless, so there’s no longer a need for a desk that can hold mountains of paper on its surface. This clean desk trend also means your home office no longer needs a dedicated space for cluttering papers, and so might just as well be a corner of your living room. Swedish furniture maker Ikea has released a modern classic for that sort of unassuming home office with its Leksvik desk, made of solid wood. €159

Let’s get digital

Having a truly clutter-free office means knowing when to digitise certain hard-copy information and store it digitally. Belgium-based scanning company IRIS, under parent company Canon, has just the gadget for that: the IRIScan Book 5, a cordless, lightweight, battery-powered hand scanner that can directly scan pages to .pdf or .jpg, and through its Optical Character Recognition software, it can even make any scanned text editable. €129

They feature prominently in furniture catalogues because their sleek design emphasises the look of your desk. But Apple’s newest MacBook Pro laptops also smarten up your work, with their powerful internal hardware, their battery claiming up to 10 hours of operation on a single charge, their crisp Retina screen, and their versatile Touch Bar above the keyboard. From €1,499

To a T

If you’re more of a Windows person than a Mac, this latest entry in Lenovo’s iconic ThinkPad series might do the trick for you. The T560 has that sturdy black design the ThinkPad series has become renowned for, and has excellent computing power for an entry-level laptop. €1,200

Just your type

Swiss accessory maker Logitech wants to reinvigorate the classic computer keyboard with its Craft model, which has a programmable dial in its upper left corner. This extra feature, which Logitech has dubbed the Crown, enables users to quickly navigate through certain software features – if you’re using compatible software from Microsoft or Adobe, that is. €199
