Belgium has better 4G coverage than neighbouring countries

The 4G coverage in Belgium has improved significantly in the last three years, writes TechPulse. But while it is possible to quickly surf the internet on a 4G mobile network from just about anywhere in country, one in three Belgians does not have a subscription to use the technology,

In Wallonia, there are there some areas that still only support outdated 3G technology, according to the FPS Economy's Information Society Index, which maps changes in the Belgian information society annually. The index reveals Belgium's digital strengths and weaknesses and compares it with 27 other countries in Europe.

In almost all of Belgium (94.5%), there is access to the fast 4G network, compared to just 67.8% 4G coverage in 2014. With the increase, Belgium surpasses its neighbouring countries. Mobile provider Orange even provides a 4G network in the Brussels metro.

Despite the widespread 4G coverage, however, not everyone in Belgium has access to the fast mobile service. Last year in July, only two out of three Belgians had a mobile data subscription, which is far below the EU average of 83.9%. In addition, there are still many areas in Belgium where only one or two operators offer 4G coverage, especially in Wallonia which has a lower population density.
