Tendonitis is most common work injury among Belgian employees

Wrist tendonitis accounts for the highest percentage of workplace injury claims in Belgium, reports Het Laatste Nieuws based on the annual report of the Federal Agency for Occupational Risks (Fedris). In 2016, the Agency handled a total of 9,672 applications for recognition of an occupational illness or injury, and nearly a third of these were related to tendinopathy.

In addition to overworked tendons, Belgian employees also suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome, a pinched nerve in the wrist. At places three and four are back problems and respiratory problems.

Of the 9,672 applications received by Fedris last year, 3,100 were recognised as occupational injuries or illnesses. About two-thirds received workers' compensation benefits, and about 10% receive long-term disability benefits.
