New evening market opens this month on Place du Luxembourg

Brussels adds another evening market to its growing list, with the addition of a Tuesday market on Place du Luxembourg from 19 April. The new market, which will offer mostly organic products, was initially scheduled to take place on the esplanade of the European Parliament, but that plan fell through due to safety concerns, writes Brusselnieuws.

Evening markets have been gaining in popularity for a while in Brussels. Tuesday was the only day of the week with no market for people looking for a place to get together after work, but that will change in two weeks with the opening of the new weekly market in Ixelles.

The municipality first wanted to organise the market on the esplanade above the Brussels-Luxembourg train station, close to the European Parliament, in order to bring life to the underutilized space.

That plan, however, fell through because safety protocol requires that the standholders keep a distance of 100 metres from the parliament buildings, where there are no trucks allowed and there is a lot of wind, according to the mayor of Ixelles.
